The museum also shows the bone needle at the late Palaeolithic, Majiabang culture wells which reflect the life of the primitive Shanghai people 6 thousand years ago, as well as the Han and Hu clothes on the Silk Road in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25). The most expensive exhibit in the museum is a set of imported teak furniture, including a long table and 12 square chairs, which were used in the Shanghai Machine Weaving Bureau founded by Li Hongzhang and others in 1878. The layout of the western-style table and chairs, as well as the Hui-style carving patterns like The Legend of Deification and Peony Pavilion on the legs of the table and chairs show the influence of the western culture in China.
