Overview
MIFA 1862 was a shipyard built in 1862. As one of the cradles of China's modern industrial civilization, it recorded the development history of China's shipbuilding industry. China's first exported 10,000-ton ship, Shaoxing, was launched here. Since the shipyard moved out in 2005, this former industrial district has been transformed into a vibrant financial center. MIFA 1862 was transformed by the world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma into a 26,000-square-meter commercial space for fashion and arts, including the 800-seat medium-sized art house 1862 Theater and the 16,000-square-meter immersive commercial art center for exhibitions, performing arts, launch events, high-end catering, custom designer brands.
