The Shanghai Museum, located at No. 201, Renmin Avenue, East Nanjing Road Sub-district, Huangpu District, is a world-renowned ancient Chinese art museum. Established in 1952, its origins can be traced back to the founding of the Shanghai Museum of the North-China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society in 1874. It is among the first national key museums jointly built by the central and local governments, a National First-Grade Museum, and a Major National Repository for Ancient Books. Its collection covers 33 categories, including nearly 1,020,000 items, 145,000 of which are graded national treasures. The museum’s collection is one of the most complete of ancient Chinese art.
