Introduction: The Shanghai International Circuit (SIC) is located in the northeast of Anting Town, Jiading District, Shanghai. Designed by renowned German racing circuit designer Hermann Tilke, it features a track layout inspired by the Chinese character shang (上), the first character in the name of the city, meaning “rising steadily.” On June 3, 2004, the circuit passed a technical inspection by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and was certified as the only FIA Grade 1 track in China. The main track is 5.451 kilometers per lap with an average speed of 205 kilometers per hour. The longest straight is 1,175-meter long. The track widths vary from 13 to 15 meters, widening to a maximum of 20 meters at curves. The main buildings of the circuit consist of the main grandstand, competition office, race control tower, administration tower, sky restaurant and media center, all connected as one. Blending elements of traditional Chinese culture and architecture, the “Chinese Red” round pillars on the east and west of the main grandstand together with the secondary grandstand roofed by lotus-shaped umbrellas have become iconic structures of the circuit. From September 24 to September 26, 2004, the circuit successfully hosted China’s first F1 race. On September 26, the day of the finals, 146,000 spectators witnessed the cut-throat competition of 20 cutting-edge racing cars, experiencing an unprecedented F1 weekend together. Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver Rubens Barrichello ultimately won the championship, and this grand event has left countless unforgettable memories in the heart of every racing fan. Since 2004, the circuit has always been the exclusive venue for the Chinese Grand Prix. In 2013, the FIA commented in its year-end publication that the circuit has firmly established itself as a premier destination for racing events across the world. The 1000th World Championship Grand Prix was staged at the circuit in 2019. During the opening ceremony, world-famous race stars including Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, and Sebastian Vettel jointly shouted “Shanghai, Let’s Meet!” in the city’s promotional video “1000th Race in Shanghai,” highlighting the city’s key position in the F1 world map. As a world-class and national-level circuit venue and one of the best competitive stages for top-tier global automotive brands, the circuit is no longer just a professional circuit, but has also been deepening its efforts in motorsport culture promotion and immersive tourism experiences. As a national 4A tourist attraction, we are committed to enabling every visitor to experience the thrill of classic F1 races from a driver’s perspective, deep within the core of the circuit. Involved in a diverse range of activities from hosting domestic and international karting events to conducting various training and recreational activities, it has gradually developed into a new landmark for popular sports consumption, extension of racing business formats and racing entertainment experiences. Meanwhile, mass events and activities such as Run the Track and cycling carnivals have become traditional programs at the circuit, allowing more citizens to personally experience the charm of the track.
