Guyi Garden

Introduction: Guyi Garden was originally named Yi Garden, and the name of Yi was borrowed from the Book of Songs, meaning Lush Bamboos. It was renamed Guyi Garden in 1746 during Emperor Qianlong’s reign in the Qing dynasty. It is representative of classical Jiangnan gardens and also one of Shanghai’s top five classical gardens. The garden is comprised of six tourist sections, including Hall of Leisure in the Wild, Pond of Frolicking Geese, Pine and Crane Garden, Verdant Serenity Garden, Mandarin Duck Lake, and Nanxiang Scenic Relief. It stands as the largest of the top five classic gardens in the city. The entire garden features bamboo for landscaping, and bamboos are combined with rocks to create three-dimensional paintings. Clusters of bamboos line winding paths leading to secluded spots. The harmony of bamboos, architecture, and streams crafts a natural, tranquil, and charming space.
