On the banks of the Suzhou River, at the intersection of West Guangfu Road and Danba Road, a uniquely designed and distinctive building stands out amidst the surrounding greenery. In 2021, Putuo District took the opportunity of urban renewal to transform and upgrade the Suzhou Creek Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall, which has now become a new cultural landmark and visual focal point along the Suzhou River.
The Suzhou Creek Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall is located in the former Shanghai Glasses Factory. In 2021, Putuo District took the opportunity of urban renewal to transform and upgrade it after achieving the connectivity of the Suzhou River waterfront. The indoor exhibition halls in the museum are divided into three areas: "Looking Back: The Historical Memory of the Suzhou River," "Setting Sail: The Industrial Monument of the Suzhou River," and "Embarking on a Journey: The Innovative Development of the Suzhou River." Through the display of cultural relics, scene restoration, light and shadow interaction, and cultural and creative experiences, the exhibition presents a panoramic view of the transformation process of the Suzhou River from a land of modern industry to an innovative and livable land.
In the exhibition hall on the first floor, a long scroll depicting the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" of old Shanghai's industry unfolds gradually. With the help of interactive technology, visitors can follow the projection and travel upstream from the Waibaidu Bridge along the Suzhou River, enjoying the view of important buildings, factories, shipping, and scenic roads along the Suzhou River. In addition to interactive dynamic experiences, the museum also displays many old objects, allowing visitors to feel the flourishing industrial civilization of the past under the coordination of dynamic blue light projection.
The exhibition hall on the second floor recreates the scene of the workshop and office of a light bulb factory at that time. Visitors can not only experience the new appearance of industrial development after the establishment of New China but also learn about the industrial history of New China and experience the active enthusiasm of the people in participating in the construction of the new society. The second-floor terrace is open to visitors, providing a panoramic view of the Danba Road pier and the long shoreline of the Suzhou River.
