If the Bund's neoclassical architectural complex defined the skyline of 19th and 20th century Shanghai, the modern architectural complex surrounding the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Lujiazui area defines the skyline of 21st century Shanghai.
Opened to the public in 1994, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the most iconic landmark in Shanghai, located in Lujiazui on the banks of the Huangpu River, facing the historic Bund's international architectural exhibition. As one of the first batch of national 5A tourist attractions, it has always been a favorite tourist spot for visitors to Shanghai.
With a towering height of 468 meters, its slender appearance is very eye-catching, offering people a panoramic view of Shanghai at different heights. From the 351-meter space capsule, the 263-meter observation deck, the 259-meter fully transparent glass skywalk, to the 90-meter outdoor observation deck, the cityscape viewed from outside the windows is truly a dazzling and unique experience.
The Shanghai Urban History Development Exhibition Hall located in the ground floor lobby displays over a thousand precious historical artifacts, as well as hundreds of lifelike wax figures and architectural models. Through the six exhibition halls inside, people can learn about the changing landscape and lifestyle of this great city since its opening as a port in 1843. Inside the lower sphere, there is the world's tallest indoor roller coaster and a 78-meter spherical cinema, both of which have a futuristic feel.
The tower also features three distinctive restaurants. The revolving restaurant located at 267 meters in the air can accommodate 350 people dining at the same time. The Joyful Restaurant on the 18-meter platform is the first large-scale O2O interactive themed restaurant in Shanghai. The Old Shanghai Restaurant located at the base of the tower offers specialty local dishes.
Next to the tower, along the riverbank, there is a tourist dock offering the essence of Huangpu River cruises. The "Oriental Pearl," "Oriental Pearl 2," and "Shanghai Star" are three Huangpu River cruise ships with different styles and sizes, providing visitors with diverse services such as sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, dining, business, weddings, and celebrations on the water.
