

From a high vantage point, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center resembles a beautiful "Butterfly Orchid". As one of Shanghai's iconic cultural facilities, the Oriental Art Center is located in Lujiazui Financial City, Pudong New Area. It was built with an investment of nearly 1.1 billion yuan by the Shanghai Municipal Government and Pudong New Area Government. The design was done by the renowned French architect Paul Andreu, with a total floor area of nearly 40,000 square meters. The building is composed of five hemispheres, namely: the main entrance hall, concert hall, music hall, exhibition hall, and opera hall.
Since its official opening in 2005, the Oriental Art Center has hosted a series of high-level performances. Performances of various types have been held at the center, accumulating nearly 8,500 shows by performance groups and artists from nearly 100 countries and regions around the world, with an audience of over 8.5 million people. The number of performances and audience attendance at the Oriental Art Center has consistently ranked among the top in China's theater complex vitality rankings for many years, second only to the National Grand Theater. It is also the only theater in China's mainland that maintains a regular schedule of over 100 performances in Pudong at the same time.
The successful hosting of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra 's first concert in Shanghai 19 years ago was selected as one of the "Top Ten Cultural News of Shanghai" in 2005. As a result, the Oriental Art Center was included in the "Top Ten Fashion Landmarks of Shanghai" and was hailed as the "newest elegant art release venue in Shanghai". Most of the performances by world-renowned symphony orchestras land at the Oriental Art Center, making it the only theater in mainland China to have hosted concerts by both the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra twice. In 2017, the Oriental Art Center set a new record in the history of Chinese theaters by hosting consecutive concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in less than a month.
In addition, the Oriental Art Center has signed strategic partnership agreements with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Royal Opera House of Oman, a country jointly building the "Belt and Road" initiative. Its artistic feature of "Listening to Symphony, Coming to the East" is well-known both domestically and internationally.
