At 14:00 on September 28, the East Branch of Shanghai Library was officially opened. The floor area is 115,000 square meters, which is the largest among library buildings in China. It's an intelligent versatile library providing book and literature information resources, scientific and technological innovation research resources, social science think tank research resources, Shanghai local information research resources. The public can use it as a study, lounge, or workshop.

The building looks like a piece of unprocessed jade "floating" above the urban forest. Located at the junction of the bustling downtown and Century Park, it is like a bond connecting human civilization and nature. The building represents an aesthetic symbol in Chinese culture. Its interior spaces are interconnected like Taihu stones. It also incorporates the beauty of art. Ten teams of contemporary artists from all over the world created a number of custom-made public works of art both indoors and outdoors, turning the library into an open space of culture and art.

There are 22 themed reading spaces, as well as intelligent cultural and creative areas, team seminar rooms, lifelong learning rooms and silent reading cubes scattered on all floors, providing all-age, inclusive, equal, precise and personalized public cultural services, making this readable building warm. The service model integrating book lending, exhibition, event and all-media services is pioneering among libraries in China. An atmosphere for reading people, reading the city, reading the world, reading literature, reading art, reading science and technology is conveyed. Reading is popularized via culture, art, science and technology. Here, culture, art and science are popularized by reading, so as to improve people's cultural accomplishment, scientific literacy, artistic taste and information attainment.
