On the evening of October 6, the 34th Shanghai Tourism Festival successfully concluded with the soprano Anna Netrebko's singing. This year, the Shanghai Tourism Festival joined hands with the China Shanghai International Arts Festival for the first time, using the arts festival's performance "Anna Netrebko Solo Concert" as the closing show of the tourism festival. The tourism festival and the arts festival transformed into a new sample of the integration of culture and tourism, bringing beauty and joy to people's lives.
Now, let me introduce to you
this "unique" concert.
But before that,
let's go back to
the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia.
In 2014, at the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics, the most eye-catching performance was undoubtedly the singer of the "Olympic Hymn."
In the end, Anna Netrebko, a Russian soprano dressed in a royal blue gown, took the stage with a male choir and performed this magnificent anthem of the sports world in Russian. The whole world's attention was focused on this opera diva.
Anna Netrebko is described by the music magazine "OperaNews" as the "most dazzling international opera superstar since Pavarotti." As a result, she has held the position of Russia's top female soprano for the past twenty years.
In tonight's concert, she will primarily perform works by three Russian musicians, using contemporary master-level vocal techniques to bring us the blend of the voices of the times and the dazzling charm of Russian classical art.
These three Russian music masters are:
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
1844-1908
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian master of opera. He composed a total of fifteen operas, including musical dramas, epic operas, mythological operas, lyrical comedies, and supernatural ballets. His most famous works include "The Maid of Pskov," "May Night," "Christmas Eve," "Sadko," "The Tsar's Bride," and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan."
Not only was he a Russian composer, but he was also a music educator and one of the founders of the Russian nationalist school of music.
In 1871, he was invited to be the head of the Theory, Composition, and Orchestration Department at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, the first music academy in Russia. He believed that music education was of utmost importance, as only a deep understanding of music could lead to the creation of new works. By teaching at the conservatory, Rimsky-Korsakov passed on his musical knowledge to the next generation of musicians and contributed to the development of Russian music education.
Today, in honor of his outstanding contributions, the full name of the St. Petersburg Conservatory is the "Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory."

Sergei Rachmaninoff
1873-1943
Sergei Rachmaninoff was a renowned classical music composer, pianist, and conductor of the 20th century. He is hailed as an outstanding representative of Russian music, and this year marks his 150th birth anniversary.
Rachmaninoff received special recognition from Tchaikovsky while studying at the music academy. He scored a perfect 5 in his harmony exam, along with an additional four plus signs.
Polish piano prodigy Joseph Hofmann once said, "Rachmaninoff is forged of iron and gold, with iron in his hands and gold in his heart." Due to Rachmaninoff's tall stature and large hands, he could easily reach an octave and a half on the piano keys, making it challenging for many to perform his works.
Rachmaninoff excelled in epic and grandiose musical styles. Some of his major works include the Second Piano Concerto, Third Piano Concerto, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, as well as operas Aleko and Francesca da Rimini.
