Get a Hands-on Experience at Shanghai Spring Bulb Festival

Before winter fully loosens its grip, spring has already begun – quietly, underground. Bulbs lie dormant, storing color, fragrance, and promise. The Shanghai Spring Bulb Festival invites you to mark the beginning of the year by planting something hopeful, and signing a small but meaningful contract with spring itself.

From January 16 to 18, Ether Bloom teams up with plant community platform Elvesay to create a city ritual centered on anticipation and growth. Here, tulips, hyacinths, grape hyacinths, daffodils, and rare striped squill come together, offering both classic spring palettes and hard-to-find varieties for seasoned growers.

Carefully curated zones guide different needs, from free selection for experienced gardeners, to ready-made sets for beginners or gifting, to high-appearance potted bulbs designed to become instant tabletop landscapes.

More than browsing, this is a hands-on experience. Visitors can plant their own bulb on-site, join light gardening workshops, and take part in interactive activities that turn planting into a tangible moment of hope. Outside, the refreshed garden space blends New Year florals with early-spring greenery, creating one of the city's first chances to photograph spring before it officially arrives.
