Qingxi Ancient Street

Qingxi Ancient Street

Historically known as "Qingxi," Qingcun Town in Fengxian dates back to the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties. It is home to a well-preserved old street and ancient buildings and bridges from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties.

A meandering river flows beneath the bridges, flanked by traditional houses with whitewashed walls and black-tiled roofs, embodying the quintessential charm of a Jiangnan water town.

After renovation, the old street has become a bustling hub. Wandering along its lanes to explore time-honored sites, visitors can soak up the unique ambiance of the Jiangnan water town, and also savor local delicacies such as zhuanggao (steamed rice cakes) and large glutinous rice balls.

Designed by Sou Fujimoto, an acclaimed emerging Japanese architect, Fengxian Museum comprises three interconnected yet independent venues, boasting striking architectural aesthetics.

The museum perfectly captures the poetic imagery of "pearls, large and small, dropping onto a jade plate" cherished in traditional Chinese culture.

Currently on display is the International Paper Art Biennale. Featuring works by nearly 100 artists worldwide, the exhibition showcases paper's boundless creative potential, ranging from large-scale paper art installations to immersive tech-integrated experiences.
