The former home of Shanghai Animation Film Studio has reopened to the public as Shanghai Animation Space (美影源动漫园区), offering visitors a chance to explore the history and legacy of Chinese animation.

A highlight of the park is the special exhibition "Frame · Origin – Shanghai Animation Film Studio's Chinese School of Animation" (《帧·源 上美影"中国动画学派"特展》).

Through original sketches, storyboards, handwritten manuscripts, animation cels (celluloids) and rare archival materials, the exhibition traces the evolution of Chinese animation – from its earliest experiments to the rise of the renowned "Chinese School of Animation."

Visitors can discover how artists blended traditional Chinese painting, folklore, paper-cutting, and ink-wash art to create a uniquely Chinese animation style.

The exhibition also features beloved classics such as "Havoc in Heaven (Monkey King)" alongside contemporary productions, including "Chinese Tales and The Little Monsters of Langlang Mountain," showcasing how the legacy of Chinese animation continues to inspire new generations of creators.

Beyond the exhibition, the park preserves elements of the original studio, including historic corridors, character sculptures and nostalgic installations, making it a popular destination for both animation fans and photography enthusiasts.
