'Amazing Shanghai' Event Opens in London

The cultural promotion event "Amazing Shanghai City Tea Salon" opened in London on April 24, offering a multi-sensory showcase of the Chinese metropolis through art, music and tea culture.

The event brought together more than 100 guests from political, business and cultural sectors, highlighting ongoing efforts to deepen exchanges between Shanghai and London. Through exhibitions, performances and interactive experiences, the program aimed to build cultural connections and strengthen mutual understanding.

A congratulatory message from the office of the United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the growing cultural engagement between the two countries and expressed hope that the event would further enhance long-term ties and people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking at the opening, Zhang Zhixin, minister of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, said the event serves as a platform to help British audiences better understand Shanghai and China. The remarks also highlighted recent policies facilitating travel and exchanges, encouraging more visitors to experience China firsthand.

A key highlight was a photography exhibition featuring more than 50 works by artists from several countries, capturing Shanghai's blend of history and modernity as well as moments of cross-cultural interaction. Live performances, including traditional tea ceremonies, erhu music and Kunqu opera, further illustrated the city's rich cultural heritage and contemporary vibrancy.

The event was guided by the Shanghai Municipal Information Office and organized by Shanghai United Media Group, with co-organization by the Shanghai Art Museum and IP SHANGHAI. It also received support from the Chinese embassy in the UK and the British Council, among other institutions.
