Agatha Christie's Orient Express Reaches Shanghai

2025-10-12

The stage adaptation of "Murder on the Orient Express" has reached Shanghai Culture Square following a successful tour of the UK and Ireland.

Agatha Christie's most famous work revolves around a murder that takes place on a snowbound train in the 1930s. Detective Hercule Poirot must solve this seemingly impossible case before the train reaches its final destination.

"Murder on the Orient Express" is one of Agatha Christie's most famous works.

The 1934 novel has been brought to the stage by playwright Ken Ludwig. Lucy Bailey, the director of the UK tour of Christie's "And Then There Were None" in 2023 and 2024, spearheads this production.

A minor change has been made to the plot: the number of suspects has been reduced from 12 in the original novel to eight. Michael Maloney stars as Hercule Poirot.

The stage features a full-scale replica of a train carriage, providing audiences with a "first-class ride all the way."
