Details: The Moller Villa, located at a corner of South Shaanxi Road, Middle Yan’an Road, Jing’an District, was completed in 1936. It was named one of Shanghai’s first Outstanding Modern Buildings and Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the Municipal Level in 1989. British-Jew Eric Moller came to Shanghai in 1919 and later became a rich businessman through betting on horse racing when he was manager at Shanghai Racecourse. Moller’s daughter, a little British girl who was living in Shanghai, dreamed of her owning a “castle like one in Andersen’s fairy tales” in 1926. Therefore, in 1927, Mr. Moller spent a huge sum to have this Nordic-style “dream castle” built. The construction took nine years to complete. The villa became the office premises of the Shanghai municipal committee of the Communist Youth League of China in 1949. It is now Shanghai Moller Villa Co., Ltd., which is open to the public.
