The Guangfulin Site is located north of Guangfulin Road, east of the Chenshan Seawall, west of Longyuan Road and south of Yinze Road in Guangfulin Subdistrict, Songjiang District, Shanghai. It is an archaeological site of the Neolithic Age to the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, covering about 100,000 m2. The site was discovered in 1958, when two tombs of Liangzhu culture and cultural remains of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods were found in trial excavations here. Since 1999, Shanghai Museum and other institutions have done several large-scale excavations at the site. The cultural remains of the late Neolithic Age discovered here were named “Guangfulin culture.” In fact, the remains and relics found here span several periods, covering Songze, Liangzhu and Guangfulin cultures of the Zhou, Han, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The discovery of the Guangfulin Site is significant to studying the cultural exchange between North China and South China, early styles of residential buildings and the origin of urban Shanghai in remote antiquity. The site was named a Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the Municipal Level in 1977 and included by the State Council in the seventh list of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level in 2013. The Guangfulin Cultural Site Park built at the site is a major cultural and tourist site in Songjiang.
