Introduction:
The Chinese Wushu Museum at Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) is the first museum that comprehensively presents Wushu culture in the world. Here, you can learn about Wushu culture and take a look at all types of weapons and books on martial arts. The museum also houses bronze weapons of China’s pre-Qin period (before 221 BC) and Wushu-related objects of different periods, including stone carvings, wood carvings, plaques and badges.
The museum has two floors. On the first floor are exhibition halls that display a variety of weapons and introductions to Wushu culture and history. The History Hall chronologically displays Wushu representatives of different periods. The Weapons Hall displays many weapons, from pre-Qin bronze weapons to spears of the Qing Dynasty, including swords, knives, lances, axes, battle-axes and dagger-axes. Walking around in this hall gives visitors a sense of time travel. Among the many exhibits is the General’s Composite Sword, the museum’s prized treasure from the Warring States Period. This sword with a sharp blade is a piece from the Bronze Age. Comparable to the General’s Composite Sword is a well-simulated Sword of King Goujian of Yue with a sharp blade and full of black diamond-shaped geometric patterns.
The underground floor has a diversity of interactive exhibits and a 3D movie theater, where you can participate in virtual fighting games, battle Bruce Lee, or dodge hidden weapons and beat a drum according to sound cues, trying your hand. You can also watch a 3D short film about Wushu.
