The Shanghai Circus World, completed in 1999, was once known as the "First Circus World in China". It is a comprehensive entertainment venue that combines culture, entertainment, and leisure, with acrobatics and circus performances as its main focus. It covers an area of 22,500 square meters. The theater is equipped with advanced lighting equipment, multi-channel, and surround sound, along with a rotating stage, a compound lifting stage, and a high-altitude horse track, creating a fully equipped and functional venue for acrobatic performances. The magnificent dome-shaped roof of the circus world shines brightly under the sunlight and transforms into a colorful light show at night, becoming a prominent landmark and another iconic building in Shanghai.
The Grand Theater has a uniquely designed dome-shaped roof and can accommodate 1,640 spectators. The stage facilities are advanced and fully functional, allowing for both acrobatic performances and comprehensive shows. Major performances such as the Shanghai International Magic Festival, the National Gold Medal Acrobatics Competition, the Russian Circus, and national stage quality projects have left countless unforgettable moments here. In 2005, the super multimedia dream play "ERA - Intersection of Time" was performed at the Shanghai Circus World, attracting numerous visitors from home and abroad. In 2021, the upgraded version of "ERA - Intersection of Time 2" was launched, integrating acrobatics, dance, music, multimedia, extreme sports, and other artistic elements. With thrilling and dazzling skillful actions and stunning stage effects, it presents a romantic, fantastical, and innovative Shanghai story to the audience, conveying the spirit of Shanghai as a city that embraces diversity and pursues excellence.
The Middle Theater, designed with 800 seats, adopts the same classic circus-style design as the Grand Theater. After its completion in 2005, it became the venue for the family-friendly brand "Happy Circus". The play, based on the core creative concept of "Animals are happy, and the audience is joyful", combines acrobatics, magic, animals, and clowns to present a classic performance that is unforgettable for a long time. It also makes the Circus World the only theater in the center of Shanghai with large-scale animal stage performances. The newly built Middle Theater will start construction at the end of 2023, and upon its completion in 2026, a brand-new creation of "Happy Circus" will bring different surprises to the audience!
