Moller Villa

With its pointed roofs, arched windows, and intricate carvings, the Moller Villa in the heart of Shanghai is like a fairytale castle. To fulfill his daughter's dream of a "fairyland," British Jewish tycoon Eric Moller commissioned the Hua Gai Architectural Firm to build this villa based on her drawings. The word "FAIRYLAND" is engraved on the plaque, making this Nordic-style villa stand out in the bustling center of Shanghai.

Around the 1950s, Eric Moller's father, Nils Moller, sailed across the ocean to Shanghai and founded "Nils Moller & Co." in 1859, which engaged in auctions, brokerage, and general agency services. Nils Moller & Co. flourished, expanding its business scope, and the Moller family accumulated significant wealth.

In 1941, the Moller family left Shanghai due to the war, and the villa changed hands several times. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it served as the office space for the Shanghai Communist Youth League City Committee. In 2001, Shanghai Hengshan Group took over and renovated the villa, transforming it into the only modern hotel in China built from a major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level. It became the first boutique hotel in Shanghai.

Today, the Moller Villa Hotel offers a variety of 53 guest rooms, including 14 in the original European-style building of Villa 1 and 39 in the newly constructed Villa 2. The hotel not only boasts complete facilities but also provides butler-style service, creating a luxurious and private living experience. Despite the ravages of war and the passage of time, the Moller Villa still retains its unique architectural style, continuing the eternal theme of "dreams and love" in this castle and becoming a charming cultural landmark in Shanghai.
