Introduction：
“1933 Shanghai,” formerly Shanghai Municipal Council Slaughterhouse, is located at No. 10 and No. 29 Shajing Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, with a gross floor area of about 32,000 square meters. Designed by British architect Balfours, it was built and completed by Yuhongji Construction Plant, a prestigious contractor in Shanghai back then, in 1933. It acquired instant fame as “No. 1 in the Far East.” More than 90 years on, this facility is still well-preserved, from its facades to interior details. It was designated a “Historic Building/Site of Hongkou District” by the People’s Government of Hongkou District in 2004 and an “Outstanding Historic Building” of Shanghai by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government in 2005. It was named a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the State Level in 2019.
