The Memorial of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China is located at No 374, South Huangpi Road, Huangpu District. It consists of the former site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the former residence of the delegates of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai (Zhou’s Mansion), the oath hall, and the exhibition hall "The Great Beginning". It displays over 1,000 exhibits, including cultural relics, photographs, dynamic videos, oil paintings, sculptures, and multimedia presentations, vividly showcasing the founding history of the Communist Party of China.
The site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China was established in the autumn of 1920. It was restored and turned into a memorial museum in 1952. It was built together with four adjacent buildings and is part of the original Shude Lane on Beile Road (now Lane 374, South Huangpi Road). The memorial museum covers an area of 600 square meters, with a construction area of about 900 square meters, faithfully restoring the original appearance. The thematic exhibition hall of the museum covers an area of 460 square meters and is divided into two floors. The exhibition hall uses versatile metal display cabinets that can be freely combined to meet the requirements of various temporary exhibitions. Upon entering the lobby, visitors are greeted by the thematic sculpture "The Great Beginning," depicting the moment when the thirteen delegates of the First National Congress firmly stepped out of the stone gate. The 5-meter-high sculpture captures everyone's attention, symbolizing the strong and idealistic revolutionary aspirations.
The new museum officially opened to the public in 2021 and houses a collection of 128,000 cultural relics. The exterior design is consistent with the style of the old buildings, covering an area of 715 square meters with a construction area of 2,316 square meters. It features the exhibition "The Great Beginning - The History of the Establishment of the Communist Party of China", including the lobby and seven sections: "Continuing the Cause and Saving the Nation", "Awakening of the Masses and Choosing an Ideology", "Early Organization and Spark of the Revolution", "Opening Up New Horizons and the Sunrise in the East," "Forge Ahead and Glorious Journey," and the final hall. The exhibition adopts various means of display, including cultural relics, photographs, oil paintings, sculptures, and multimedia presentations, vividly depicting the birth of the Communist Party of China.
