Introduction:
The China Art Museum, Shanghai was once the China Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai. If you have not taken a close look at the pavilion during the Expo, you can now visit the museum for a look at this magnificent building without haste. Apart from a multimedia version of Along the River during the Qingming Festival, the centerpiece of the museum, also on display here are works by many modern artists. The exhibition hall for the said multimedia version of the painting is on the 49M floor, where this digital painting has been in place after the Expo closed. It is still a popular highlight at the museum. Also on this floor is a hall named “The Bright Moon Rises from the Sea—the Origin of the Chinese Modern and Contemporary Art,” a permanent exhibition offering a glimpse into paintings of the Shanghai School which blends Chinese and Western styles. Standing at such a height, visitors can look out the window for overlooking erstwhile classic venues of the Expo, including the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Other floors at the museum primarily display the works of renowned modern Chinese artists and stage temporary exhibitions of foreign and domestic works of art. The exhibits are often changed to irregularly present works of art from the collections of global museums. There are many works on display at permanent exhibitions, among which the large-scale ones are the “Exhibition of Donated Shadow Puppetry Works in the Museum Collection”, the “Artists Living in Shanghai Wu Speech” exhibition and the “Stories Illustrated by He Youzhi—Exhibition of Donated Works in the Museum Collection” on the 0M floor.
