Qingxi Old Street

Qingxi Old Street has a history of more than 1400 years and is a typical representative of Jiangnan Water Town. Along the river, the architectural style is mostly brick and wood structures from the Ming and Qing dynasties, with blue tiles and white walls, giving it a simple and elegant charm. Many historical sites are preserved on both sides of the river, such as Wanghai Tower, Nanyuan, and Nanhong Bridge, showcasing its rich cultural heritage.

The existing Qingxi Old Street is 1.3 kilometers long and preserves the local rural architecture of the southern suburbs of Shanghai. To this day, the charm of Qingxi Old Street still remains, making it the center and soul of Qingcun Town. Qingxi Old Street has one long corridor (Fengyu Corridor), three lanes (archway gatehouses), seven bridges, nine lanes, and eighteen courtyards. Both sides of the ancient street retain various Jiangnan-style buildings from different periods, with white walls, black tiles, and numerous water bridges. Ancient bridges such as Nanhong Bridge, Sanzhu Bridge, and Zhonghe Bridge reflect the distinctive bridge village characteristics of Qingcun. The "hanging feet buildings" along the river in Qingxi Old Street have the characteristics of the water towns in Jiangnan, being built close to the bank and standing by the water.

Qingxi Old Street is not a noisy tourist attraction, but more like a dusty memory of Jiangnan, providing people with a way to slow down and enjoy life. The charm of Qingxi Old Street lies in the fact that it is still the center of local life. In the alleys on both sides of the street, elderly residents gather in groups to drink tea and chat, enjoying their leisurely daily lives. On the street, you will find some multi-generational soy sauce factories, handmade pastry shops, and cotton cloth stores. Traditional snacks such as Qingtuan, Crab Shell Yellow, and Oil Dumplings can be found everywhere in the streets and alleys, while Rice Wine Balls and Pan-fried Buns are classic choices for locals' breakfast. Many snack shop owners are born and raised in Fengxian, and their attitude towards food is as simple and serious as their attitude towards life. Here, you can experience the weight of history and the vibrancy of the present.
