Haiwan National Forest Park, located in the southern part of Shanghai, is one of the largest forest parks in Shanghai, covering an area of approximately 16,000 mu. It features vast forests, lakes, and wetlands. The park has a forest coverage rate of over 71%, creating a true "forest by the sea." It is home to a variety of trees such as camphor trees, Chinese fir, pine trees, and ginkgo trees, making it a paradise of evergreen scenery throughout the four seasons. The park also boasts a large lake spanning around 580 mu, with sparkling waves. Various water birds inhabit the lakeside, making it a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Shanghai Haiwan National Forest Park regularly hosts various special events. The Plum Blossom Festival has been held for 11 consecutive years until 2024. With a 2,000-mu plum garden as its foundation, the park organizes cultural events during the Spring Festival, including flower appreciation, cultural carnivals, flower arrangement experiences, health hiking, traditional Chinese clothing markets, and children's art education activities, presenting a "plum blossom" feast that combines flower appreciation, park strolling, and leisure activities for citizens and tourists to enjoy a springtime rendezvous amidst blooming flowers.
Another unique feature of the park lies in its outdoor sports facilities. It has multiple hiking and cycling trails, and hosts the Outdoor Sports Festival, which includes high-level and large-scale sporting events such as triathlons and half marathons. There are also leisure activities such as real-life CS games, kayaking, paddleboarding, and forest yoga.
You can rent a bicycle and ride along the dedicated lanes, weaving through the forests and lakes, experiencing the thrill of freedom and speed. Alternatively, you can choose to hike and savor the scenery along the way. The park's children's playground and large lawn provide fun activities for families. You can bring your own utensils and food, spending a leisurely afternoon under the shade of trees, allowing children to run and play in nature.
