Introduction：
Shanghai Zoo, originally known as Xijiao Park, opened in 1954 and covers an area of 72.89 hectares. It was renamed Shanghai Zoo in 1980 and now focuses on the core functions of “wildlife scientific research, comprehensive conservation, science education, ecological protection advocacy, and cultural recreation.” The zoo houses and displays over 5,000 rare and precious wild animals from more than 460 species and grows more than 100,000 trees of over 400 varieties. It is recognized as a National AAAA Tourist Attraction, a National Science Education Base, a National Youth Science and Technology Education Base, a National Forestry Science Education Base, a Shanghai Model Unit, and a Shanghai Volunteer Service Base. The zoo features more than 600 animal species, with exhibits including amphibians and reptiles, herbivores, carnivores, birds, and other specialized zones, along with facilities such as the Science Education Hall, Goldfish Corridor, and Butterfly Pavilion. The reedy Swan Lake provides a habitat for birds like pelicans, swans, and mandarin ducks. Throughout the lush and elegant garden landscape, a small river meanders, inviting visitors to relax on the lawn, enjoy the sunshine, go boating, or ride the Ferris wheel.
