China Maritime Museum, the first national-level maritime museum approved by the State Council, was jointly established by the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. It officially opened on July 5, 2010. Situated by the picturesque Dishui Lake in Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai, the museum covers a floor area of 46,434 square meters, with 21,000 square meters dedicated to indoor exhibitions. With “navigation” as its central theme and “collection” as its foundation, the museum is organized into six main pavilions: Maritime History, Ships, Navigation and Ports, Maritime Affairs and Safety, Seafarers, and Military Navigation. It also features two special exhibition zones—Exhibition Zone of Ocean and Exhibition Zone of Maritime Sports and Leisure—along with a planetarium, a 4D cinema, and a children’s activity center. On weekends and holidays, the museum regularly hosts educational activities such as the “Navigation Stage” program, designed for families and young students, and offers free timed guided tours in various sections. Additionally, the museum’s cultural creativity store allows visitors to immerse themselves more deeply in maritime culture and take a piece of the museum home with them.
