Shangsheng·Xinsuo is located in the historical and picturesque area of Xinhua Road, which is renowned as the "First Garden Road in Shanghai". Nearly a century ago, it was the Columbia Life Circle for foreign residents to relax and entertain. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it transformed into the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products. Now, it has become a gathering place for culture and art, a new urban business district and a vibrant community that integrates office, entertainment, life, and cultural functions.

The architectural style of Shangsheng·Xinsuo covers various decades of the last century. It mainly consists of three historical buildings: Sun Ke Villa, Columbia Country Club, and Navy Club, 11 industrial transformed buildings that witnessed the growth of New China, and 5 contemporary buildings with distinctive styles. It covers an area of more than 70 mu (about 4.7 hectares) with a total construction area of approximately 60,000 square meters. To protect the diversity of the buildings, each renovation was tailor-made. For example, the renovation of the Columbia Country Club and Sun Ke Residence used the "restore to the original" approach to restore the facades and spaces of the buildings, maximizing the authenticity. Among them, the popular swimming pool in the Navy Club is one of the few remaining English-style mosaic-tiled pools. The two-story auxiliary buildings built in the 1980s around the pool have also been preserved and transformed into waterfront dining and leisure shops, now becoming the vibrant and fashionable center of the entire block.

Strolling around, visitors can also check in at the Niaowu Bookstore located in the 96-year-old Columbia Country Club in the park. The bookstore is divided into two floors. The first floor, themed "Cultivating Intellect," fully preserves and showcases the original features of the building, such as the fireplace and Collins columns, presenting a space with classical architectural aesthetics. The second floor creates a modern space with the theme "Harvesting Sensibility." As a base for "aesthetic education," it designs an art corridor that collects art books from around the world, bringing visitors an unforgettable aesthetic feast.
