Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression

The Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is the only thematic memorial hall in the country that reflects the entire process of the two Songhu Anti-Japanese Wars and the 14-year Anti-Japanese War by the military and civilians in Shanghai. In August 2014, it was named one of the first batch of national-level war memorial facilities and sites by the State Council. It is a national defense education demonstration base, a patriotism education base in Shanghai, a party history education base, a base for cross-strait exchanges, and a volunteer service base. It is also a second-level national museum.

The Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was officially opened to the public on January 28, 2000. In 2015, with the support and concern of the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Party Committee and the leaders of the district committee and government, the memorial hall underwent the Phase I renovation project. The main exhibition is themed "Blood Stains on Songhu", focusing on the "January 28 Songhu Anti-Japanese War" and the "August 13 Songhu Anti-Japanese War". In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the victory of the war, it was officially opened to the public on August 13, 2015.

The Phase II of the memorial hall was officially opened to the public on September 3, 2020, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the victory of the war. It features a permanent exhibition titled "Arduous Struggle - Shanghai Anti-Japanese War and World Anti-Fascist War", which comprehensively showcases the historical picture and heroic achievements of the Shanghai people's brave struggle for national independence and liberation during the 14-year war under the banner of the anti-Japanese national united front advocated by the Communist Party of China. The exhibition won the Outstanding Award for the Top Ten Exhibition of National Museums in 2020.

The outdoor exhibition area of the memorial hall includes artistic installations such as the "Gathering" Victory Fire, the "Warning Bell", and the "Anti-Japanese War Culture and Art Wall".

The Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression always focuses on promoting the red culture brand, inheriting and promoting the red resources, and emphasizing its active role in strengthening the construction of social spiritual civilization, practicing socialist core values, carrying out patriotism education, and promoting socialist advanced culture. It has formed a model of "integration of culture and greenery, integration of history and art, and unity of the memorial hall and the park" with the Shanghai Songhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park.
