The Gucun area, where Gucun Park is located, can be traced back to the Ming and Qing dynasties and was named after the Gu family who settled here. This region has historically been characterized by agriculture and water town culture, representing the typical water town style of the Jiangnan region. With the process of urbanization, Baoshan has gradually transformed from a traditional rural area into a modernized urban district, and the regional culture of Gu Village has also been inherited and renewed in this process.
Despite being in a modern metropolis, the Gucun area still retains some traditional cultural symbols such as rivers, bridges, and folk customs, injecting a unique historical atmosphere into this land. Gucun Park not only inherits these cultural elements but also incorporates them into the construction of a modern park through landscape design, allowing visitors to experience the charm of the Jiangnan water town while exploring.
As one of the largest suburban parks in Shanghai, Gucun Park has gradually developed into an important ecological and leisure space since its opening in 2009. The park is famous for its large cherry blossom forests, and the annual "Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival" held in spring has become a highlight of the city's cultural activities, attracting a large number of citizens and tourists to admire the flowers. This festival not only showcases the beauty of nature but also enhances cultural exchanges among communities. Activities such as Hanfu shows, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and themed cruise days during the cherry blossom festival combine traditional cultural elements with contemporary lifestyles, strengthening community cohesion and a sense of identity.
The park is equipped with various recreational facilities such as children's playgrounds, a dinosaur park, Oriental Bird World, water kayaking, and paintball centers, meeting the needs of different groups of people. Strolling through the park, visitors can enjoy the beauty of cherry blossoms, roses, lotus flowers, and various seasonal landscapes. They can experience outdoor barbecues in the cherry blossom barbecue garden and immerse themselves in the immersive exhibition of past Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festivals at the Cherry Blossom Culture and Art Exhibition Hall, taking home cherry blossom cultural and creative products. In addition, the park and Baoshan Library jointly created a shared reading room called "Yingyue Book Garden," providing visitors with a cultural space for reading, communication, and relaxation. The book garden hosts various activities such as parent-child reading and gardening lectures, further expanding the "park+" functions.
