On the occasion of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, Museum of Art Pudong has more good news! The Light Up MAP light and shadow show is open to the public for free, and two major exhibitions, "The Miracle of Patterns: Masterpieces of Art from the Louvre’s India, Iran, and Ottoman Collections" and "Extraordinary Picasso: A New Perspective by Paul Smith," will also open to visitors in December.
Light Up MAP Light and Shadow Show Launches
As a key event at the Pudong sub-venue of the 2nd Shanghai International Light Festival (SHILF 2025), the Pumei Light Show series continues the theme of "Light Up Shanghai," featuring a diverse array of artistic forms such as a multimedia mega-AI special light show, nighttime music performances, and outdoor film screenings, delivering an immersive light and shadow feast that blends art and technology.
From now until October 26th, starting every night at 9:30 PM, the east exterior facade of the Pudong Art Museum will surprise visitors with a "multimedia large-scale special AI light and shadow show."
The light and shadow show will be played multiple times in a loop, with each session lasting about 15 minutes, and a total duration of approximately 2 hours each night.
During the event, the Land Garden of the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai will transform into a vibrant nighttime art stage. From now until October 4th, multiple performances by the Music Workshop Band will illuminate the early autumn nights. From October 5th to 10th, a series of outdoor films will be screened with warmth, allowing audiences to romanticize with great movies under the evening breeze by the river. On October 11th, the Shanghai Light Music Ensemble will present a concert titled "Traversing Light-years," where classic melodies intertwine with flowing light and shadow. On October 12th, the "Good Morning, Friends" concert will gather several renowned hosts, engaging the audience with familiar golden hits. Finally, on October 25th, a highlight performance from the musical "Arto, Van Gogh" will showcase, reviving the emotions and colors of Van Gogh's artistic world.
Meanwhile, from today until October 18, every weekend and holiday evening, iconic buildings such as Qiantan Center, Jingyao Qiantan, and Qiantan Hub will showcase the "Artic Epic" light and shadow show on their facades, collectively illuminating the Huangpu River waterfront with dazzling brilliance.
Two Major Blockbuster Exhibitions Officially Announced
This December, the Pudong Art Museum will collaborate with two of the world’s top museums—the Louvre Museum in France and the National Picasso Museum in Paris—to present two major joint exhibitions, bringing a world-class art feast to the public.
The exhibition "The Miracle of Patterns: Masterpieces of Indian, Iranian, and Ottoman Art from the Louvre" draws on the Louvre’s rich collection and aims to showcase the extraordinary craftsmanship and outstanding achievements of Indian, Iranian, and Ottoman art from the 16th to the 19th century. Since opening to the public in 1793, the Louvre has become one of the leading museums internationally, boasting about 30,000 art treasures displayed across 70,000 square meters of exhibition space.
The exhibition "Extraordinary Picasso: A New Perspective by Paul Smith" invites Paul Smith, one of the legends of contemporary fashion, to serve as artistic director. The National Picasso Museum in Paris holds the world’s largest collection of Picasso’s works and is the only institution encompassing all media of Picasso’s oeuvre.
Nighttime extended opening hours until 11 PM
The annual heavyweight international exhibition "Creating Modernity: Artistic Treasures from the Paris Olympic Museum" at Pudong Art Museum, as the largest exhibition of the Olympic Games in China to date and the only stop in the world, has attracted about 800000 visitors since its opening.
To fully unleash the potential of nighttime art, from September 5th to October 26th, the daily opening hours of Pudong Art Museum will be extended from 10:00 to 23:00, and late night special tickets will be launched (40 yuan/ticket on weekdays, 60 yuan/ticket on weekends and holidays), providing more flexible and discounted nighttime exhibition options. At the same time, the surrounding Bund sightseeing tunnel, Fudu Binjiang underground parking lot, and Lujiazui Mingcheng Hotel have launched welfare discounts, creating a new scene for nighttime consumption.
