Museum adds excitement for children

Five interactive installations are the latest exhibits at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum as it undergoes an improvement program.

The new exhibits are on show in the “Lights of Wisdom,” one of the 11 permanent exhibition galleries.

One is a large transparent plastic box, with blue liquid insides. By shaking the box, children can see how a tsunami is caused.

The museum said another eight installations related to math and mechanics will be added to the gallery soon. They are designed to encourage children to explore nature through interactive experiences.

Over the next three to five years, six major exhibition galleries will be closed one by one for renovation, the museum said.

Three new science education movies have been introduced at the museum.

“Under The Sea 3D” takes the audience deep under the waters around Australia, New Guinea and the Indo-Pacific to explore mysterious sea creatures.

“Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation” transports viewers to the inside of a volcano while “Backyard Wilderness“ focuses on the relations between humans and the natural world.
