Shanghai Urban Planning Center Launches Two New exhibitions

Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center launched two exhibitions on November 19 about metropolitan public space and connections between town and country.

The exhibitions at 100 People’s Avenue are jointly organized by the center and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University.

They aim to showcase the international teaching experiments of the college over the past 30 years with paintings, planning models, artistic installations and sketches.

The Connection with Urban Public Space exhibition on the third floor of the center includes a batch of artworks created by undergraduates and postgraduates of the college.

Sketches about urban planning of the renowned Italian city of Venice are being displayed with explanations on what is applicable for Shanghai. Some urban planning models as well as photographs from students and professors at the college are also being showcased.

As a highlight, an installation about a research program on how to protect the city's historic streets has been exhibited for the first time.

The exhibition will run through January 14.

The other exhibition on the second floor titled Time Mark Between City and Countryside features over 500 exhibits including oil paintings, gouaches, sketches, ink paintings and sculptures made by an arts professor of the college Yin Jia during his 30-year teaching experience.

The exhibits focus on urban-rural construction and development over the past three decades. It will run through January 28.

As a specialized urban planning exhibition site, the center will not only exhibit planning projects but also focus more on the planners, architects and professors behind these urban blueprints.
