Overview

Overview

Yunxiang Temple is located at end of Nanxiang Old Street, and had been an ancient temple with long history and famous in Southern China. Unfortunately, the temple was ruined by disasters and man-made calamities. Only the reserved double pagodas in Nanxiang, the stone Buddhist banner built in Tang Dynasty and Putong Pagoda built in Song Dynasty witness the temple history. The present Yunxiang Temple was rebuilt on the original site, and is the first complete temple of Tang Dynasty style in Southern China. The words inscribed in the tablet are not “Yunxiang Temple”, but are "Liuyun Temple". There was a famous "Liuyun Temple" originally in urban area of Shanghai, and that temple was ruined during the war of resistance against Japanese. Afterward, with great efforts of the Buddhist believers, that temple was moved to the site of the current site of Yunxiang Temple, these two temples became one temple and jointly inherit Buddhism.
