Paddle wheel ship to cruise the river

A NEW paddle wheel cruise ship capable of holding 450 passengers will be operating on the Huangpu River at the end of the year. Construction of the ship`s body is complete, said the Shanghai Scenery Co Ltd, the owner of the ship. The ship will feature two huge chimneys, the company said. "The decoration will be rather gorgeous," said Zhou Yue, general manager of the company. "The ship will have a theater, a ball room and bars both on the deck and in the cabin. "We invested 43 million yuan (US$6 million) in construction of the ship." The Huangpu Ship is expected to run along the Huangpu River twice each evening after being put in operation. Duration of the cruises will be about one and a half hours. The ship will also accommodate Western-style banquets and weddings. "We estimate the tickets for a trip will cost US$100 each or 100 euros each," Zhou said. The price is about seven to eight times higher than the common cruise ships` on the Huangpu River. "We expect the ship can play a role during the 2010 World Expo," Zhou said.
