Shanghai Lupu Bridge Won the 2008 IABSE Outstanding Structural Award
2009-05-05

Shanghai Lupu Bridge won the Outstanding Structural Award of International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering(IABSE) 2008.

The plaque unveiling ceremony of "Outstanding Structural Award to Shanghai Lupu Bridge " was held at the Puxi Plaza under the Lupu Bridge. Vice Mayor Mr. Shen Jun attended the ceremony and delivered a welcome speech.

IABSE sets the Outstanding Structure Award to recognize the most remarkable, innovative, creative, or otherwise stimulating structures completed worldwide. In the last 9 years, 10 outstanding buildings and 8 bridges won the awards. Shanghai Lupu Bridge gets this award as a first bridge in China.

Lupu Bridge also functions as a sightseeing tourist attraction. By climbing on the 100-meter-high top of the bridge, visitors will have a perfect bird`s-eye view of the Shanghai World EXPO site.

Under the efforts of Shanghai Conference Ambassador, Professor Mr. Ge Yaojun from Tongji University, the 2009 IABSE Recent Major Bridges Workshop was held in Shanghai.
