Introduction: |

The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 is a series of nine tennis tournaments that are part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, held annually throughout the year in Europe, North America and (as of 2009) Asia. The series was introduced in 1990 with the inception of the ATP Tour. The events were originally known as "Championship Series, Single Week" events. The present name took effect in 2009.
The 2009 Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 will be a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It will be the 1st edition of the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, and is classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the 2009 ATP World Tour. It will be played at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The inaugural edition is scheduled to take place from October 11 to October 18, 2009. |
